Reinventing Modern Legal: Operations & Culture

When I joined General Legal as a Legal Operations Manager, I knew I was stepping into a fast‑moving environment - but I don’t think anything could have fully prepared me for the pace we operate at. My role sits at the intersection of people, process, and product: creating internal policies, refining workflows, building product tutorials, brainstorming with engineering and design, supporting intake when needed, and running end‑to‑end hiring for the LLP. In short, my job is to make our attorneys’ lives easier so they can focus on delivering exceptional work for clients. It’s a broad mandate, but that’s exactly what makes it energizing.

Before General Legal, I had worked in both traditional law and in‑house environments -first as a Senior Paralegal at a boutique firm, then at a large corporate entertainment company. Both were fast‑paced in their own ways, and I enjoyed the structure and rigor they offered. But General Legal is a different kind of fast. Priorities shift quickly, new ideas surface daily, and the company evolves in real time. Instead of feeling overwhelming, though, it feels alive. There’s a sense that every improvement, every workflow tweak, every new idea actually moves the needle.

One of the biggest differences here is the absence of bureaucracy. There are no power plays, no layers of approvals designed to slow things down, no “that’s just how we do it” mentality. We’re all aligned around improving and scaling, and that alignment creates space for everyone - regardless of background - to contribute meaningfully. I’m surrounded by Harvard Law grads and savants who think at the speed of light (engineers), but my feedback carries weight because the culture is built on valuing impact over pedigree. It’s rare, and it’s refreshing.

I won’t pretend the work isn’t grueling at times. It absolutely is. But it’s the kind of grueling that fuels you rather than drains you. The kind that makes you want to stay up late polishing a workflow or rewriting a tutorial because you know it will make someone’s day easier tomorrow. In past roles, long hours felt like survival. Here, they feel like momentum. There’s a joy in the grind when you know you’re building something that matters.

What ties it all together is leadership’s transparency. There’s no sugarcoating where we stand or what needs to be done next. We talk openly about challenges, priorities, and the path forward. That clarity makes it easy to stay focused and aligned, even when the pace is intense. Working at General Legal has been the most demanding role of my career - but also the most rewarding. It’s a place where you grow fast, contribute boldly, and feel the impact of your work every single day. And ultimately, that’s what defines General Legal’s culture: high‑velocity work powered by trust, transparency, and a shared commitment to building something better every day.
